Jingle all the Waves! P&O Cruises Australia Celebrates 90 Years of Christmas Cruising Magic
Tuesday, December 20, 2022
Ninety years since its inaugural Christmas cruise set sail from Sydney in 1932, P&O Cruises Australia is overjoyed to be resuming the tradition, with its three ships collectively hosting over 8300 guests this Christmas as they begin departing from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
An impressive 700 metres of garlands and 46 decorated Christmas trees have been installed across the three P&O ships, with decorations adorning the ships’ atriums, bars, theatres and restaurants. Snow machines are also in full swing, and carollers and choirs are poised and ready to spread the Christmas spirit.
Marguerite Fitzgerald, President of Carnival Australia and P&O Cruises Australia, is revelling in the return to Christmas spirit at sea.
“We are so excited to be cruising again this festive season and sharing in the Christmas joy with all our guests onboard. It really is the perfect way to relax and cherish the time with loved ones, while everything from Christmas entertainment, crafting and catering is taken care of by our crew.”
Fitzgerald adds that the return of the popular Christmas Cruises, after a two-year absence due to the pandemic, is a particularly special milestone for the business.
“The Christmas Cruises have always been a highlight on our calendar but never more so than in 2022, as this year they signify the return of summer holiday cruising in Australia. Importantly, they also mark 90 years since P&O commenced sailing in Australia in December 1932, and this is an incredible anniversary we look forward to celebrating in the New Year.”
The P&O crew have planned festive itineraries with all the trimmings on each of P&O’s three ships including Carols by Candlelight, Christmas Variety Shows, Christmas Cookie Clubs, Guess that Christmas Tune Trivia, Merry Movie Nights and Christmas services. Santa will also make a special visit on Christmas Eve with a special Christmas menu being prepared for Christmas Day.
