Anzac Day Commemorated on P&O Cruises Australia’s Pacific Encounter for the First Time Since the Ship Joined the Fleet

Prior to the pandemic-related pause in operations, Anzac Day was a special occasion on P&O Cruises Australia ships with guests and crew participating in poignant Dawn Services at sea.

Senior officers on board Pacific Encounter kept the Anzac Day tradition alive yesterday with a moving Dawn Service set against the backdrop of a spectacularly colourful Singapore sunrise.

The service was particularly significant for the cruise line as it was the first Anzac commemoration held on board Pacific Encounter since the ship joined the P&O Cruises fleet.

It was led by Pacific Encounter Hotel Director and the ship’s Security Officer, Melissa Yates and Dave Yates. Dave is a keen student of military history including the Gallipoli campaign in 1915 that gave rise to the Anzac legend.

“Our cruise operations might be paused temporarily but it is wonderful to know that the Anzac tradition could still be commemorated in such a respectful way,” said Sture Myrmell, President of P&O Cruises Australia.

“The special service on board Pacific Encounter was another way for us to stay connected to our guests who have experienced Anzac Day services at sea and the special meaning of the day.”
