What does it mean when the ship is at anchor for a port visit?

For some destinations the ship will be at anchor off the coast in deeper water and access to the port will be via the ship's tenders. Guests should factor this into their plans as it may take a little bit longer to go ashore, as well as to get back onboard, than it would when the ship is alongside in a port.
