Milne Bay Village Life

Journey westwards into the heart of Huhu, the home of the war canoe and centre of the historic cannibalistic hinterland. Interestingly enough it is also the place where part of PNG constitution was first drafted by the first governor general, Sir John Guise. Learn about the Tawala culture and history, pass by one of the world’s largest Palm Oil plantations and learn about the plant itself. Drive to Bibiko Village to hear how the introduction of western culture has been integrated with a traditional way of life. See first-hand what PNG village life is like and taste succulent dishes from local clay pots, taro, banana, cassava, yam and leafy green vegetables. On the way back to the pier visit a once active war canoe site to learn more about this tradition and hear about what makes the canoe so significant and important to village life. Your last stop is at Milne Bay War Memorial to hear about the battle and why it was fought on this thin coastal corridor.
