Visit a traditional Melanesian village for a magical cultural experience. You’ll witness fascinating time-honoured traditions, tribal dress, cultural music, dancing and enjoy a traditionally-prepared Melanesian feast. Depart from the wharf and travel to a traditional Melanesian Village located on the shores of the beautiful Erakor Lagoon. On arrival you will be welcomed into the main village where you can watch the time-honoured tradition of Kava preparation, listen to a unique performance of a local bottle band and witness a parade of tribal costumes and traditional custom dances performed to the beat of drums around a fire. Another highlight of the evening is sure to be sitting down to your traditionally-prepared Melanesian feast, a smorgasbord of local cuisine prepared in an ‘earth oven’. This is a magical, unique cultural and cuisine experience for all ages.

This tour is only available on those cruises that are visiting Port Vila overnight. To make your day as enjoyable as possible, please ensure that you wear comfortable flat-soled shoes, clothing suited to the weather conditions including a jacket for those cooler nights and bottled water. Please note Kava is a non-alcoholic beverage used traditionally in the Pacific Islands for ceremonial purposes. Formed by the root of the pepper tree Kava usually has a mildly sedative and anaesthetic effect, although it is possible to have adverse reactions including upset stomach. The traditional method of preparing kava does not meet P&O Cruises standard of health and safety and any participation in trying kava is at the risk of the individual. Please bring local currency for additional purchases.
