The Tchou Tchou Train

All aboard the historic, yellow Tchou Tchou train for a guided tour of some of Noumea’s most popular attractions and best lookout points. This iconic, open-air train is a relaxing way to take in all the sights and sounds as you ride around the city. Visit Lady of the Pacific – a cross standing 23 feet tall and a place of prayer and pilgrimage for New Caledonians. Ride past the local markets, the military barracks built more than 100 years ago, and Faubourg Blanchot, one of Noumea’s oldest residential districts with many old colonial houses. Continue to Promenade Pierre Vernier, the popular coconut-lined waterfront and the five-star flagship Meridien Hotel. Next is Ouen Toro lookout, for breath-taking views across the city, the blue lagoon and out to the tropical islands in the distance. Ride on past scenic Anse Vata Beach and Baie des Citrons, the Yacht Club, Baie de l’Orphelinat and the Southern Province Government House. Next stop is beautiful Coconut Square located in the central shopping district where you can do some shopping and take a 10-minute walk back to the cruise ship, or you can finish the tour by shuttle. Special Notes: To ensure your adventure is as enjoyable as possible, wear comfortable flat-soled shoes, clothing suited to the weather conditions, bring a hat, plenty of sunscreen and bottled water.
