Noumea Discovery And Anse Vata Beach

Explore a city full of fascinating contradictions on this half-day tour of Noumea. Discover sophisticated French flavour fused with Pacific Island culture, a bustling city set on a relaxed tropical island and charming architecture old and new. This tour is all about sightseeing, breath-taking views and Instagram-worthy holiday photos so don’t forget your camera. Your tour begins as you board your coach for a scenic drive through Place des Cocotiers (coconut tree square). Lined with impressive, 100-year old flame red trees the square features four distinct areas: ‘Place Feuillet’ landscaped around an authentic old-time music kiosk; ‘Place Courbet’ with the monumental ‘Céleste’ fountain; ‘Place de la Marne’ and ‘Olry Square’ offering a café terrace overlooking an ornamental lake. Continue along the Promenade Pierre Vernier past the waterfront to Ouen Toro Lookout, located on the tip of the peninsula. Get a dose of history as you observe the two Australian cannons from WWII standing guard and take in spectacular views of Noumea’s tropical bays and beaches and out across the world's largest lagoon. Enjoy some free time at Anse Vata Beach where you can swim in the sheltered water or explore the elegant shops and sidewalk cafés lining the promenade. The swimming pool at the luxurious Le Meridien Hotel is available for use at an additional cost. Next stop is Lemon Bay for some French pastries and refreshments. As you make your way back to the cruise ship you’ll drive past noteable sites including the old colonial houses in the Fauborg Blanchot district, one of Nouméa's oldest residential districts. You’ll also pass by the Southern Province Government House, a monument celebrating a century of French presence in New Caledonia and Baie de l'Orphelinat (Bay of Orphans), named in memory of the orphans of Empress Eugénie sent to New Caledonia to be brides for the first settlers.
