A Glimpse of our Island (unguided)

See the spectacular white sand Kuto beach and stop briefly at Brush Island lookout to view this peculiar shaped islet, decorated with the Araucaria Columnaris Pine. At Vao Village, visit the town hall, post office, small clinic and the Notre Dame de l’Assomption, Catholic Church (1861). The village was established at the same time as the Church, so that both the tribes and families could receive the teachings of the mission. At Kanak Bay, see traditional kanak wood carvings placed around a religious memorial celebrating the arrival of the first Marist brothers to the island in 1848.
