Special Notes

Village visits are closed for tours on Sundays, Good Fridays and if there’s a death in the village. Please note Kava is a non-alcoholic beverage used traditionally in the Pacific Islands for ceremonial purposes. Formed by the root of the pepper tree Kava usually has a mildly sedative and anaesthetic effect, although it is possible to have adverse reactions including upset stomach. The traditional method of preparing kava does not meet P&O Cruises standard of health and safety and any participation in trying kava is at the risk of the individual. During the river boat journey footwear may get wet. Local buses are used for transportation. These buses are very basic and have no air-conditioning. Guests to the village are asked not to wear hats and women are kindly asked to cover their legs.
