Pinot and Pecorino

Enjoy an exclusive rural New Zealand experience with our Hawke’s Bay Pinot and Pecorino tour, in the majestic Tuki Tuki Valley. Your hosts for the day will talk about their about-turn that brought them to sunny Hawke's Bay from corporate Auckland, to start a sheep dairy farm. You'll learn about the unique history and composition of sheep cheese, and how it takes its place in the world. Naturally, there will be plenty of opportunities to hang out with animals, and have a behind the scenes experience of real rural New Zealand, a very personal insight into an innovative agri-business. After departing Napier, you'll head south through Clive to the famous Tuki Tuki Valley. Deep in the Valley, we will arrive at Craggy Range Sheep Dairy farm and meet Kate and James at their sheep milking shed, where they'll talk us through the sheep cheese industry, and show us the inner workings of sheep milking. If we're lucky, we'll catch them at milking time! The tour continues up to the homestead, where you will experience breathtaking views of Craggy Range, the back face of Te Mata Peak. Kate and James will talk about their journey to becoming Sheep Dairy farmers, and how they produce award winning sheep cheeses that are supplied to some of New Zealand's best restaurants. We will finish with an educational and chatty sheep cheese and wine pairing, including the famous Manchego and Pecorino varieties, among others. Then we hit the road for a scenic drive back to Napier. Special Notes: Please wear comfortable flat-soled shoes, clothing suited to the weather conditions, a hat and jacket, plenty of biodegradable sunscreen and bring bottled water.
