Erewhon High-country Station

Take an unforgettable journey into the Canterbury high country to one of New Zealand’s most famous and stunning high country stations, Erewhon Station. Erewhon Station is a 35,000 acre property situated at the foot hills of the Southen Alps. Travel across the vast Canterbury plains, into the stunning Canterbury high country with its rugged mountain ranges, crystal blue lakes and fresh crisp mountain air. Stop at Lake Clearwater for beautiful views looking down the lake to the mountains in the distance. Pass the site of a Lord of the Rings filming location, Edoras on Mt Sunday. Erewhon is a play on the word “nowhere” spelled backwards. Meet the owners of Erewhon Station, Colin and Erin. This working high country station farms merino sheep, hereford cattle, deer and includes a large clydesdale horse stud. Alot of the work still uses the Clydesdale horses such as towing wagons and working the fields by towing plows. Enjoy a unique Clydesdale horse wagon ride experience and watch a working horse demonstration. Special Notes: Please wear comfortable flat-soled shoes, clothing suited to the weather conditions, a hat and jacket, plenty of biodegradable sunscreen and bring bottled water.
