Magnetic Island
Discover the geology, history and wildlife of Magnetic Island, so called because it apparently had a “magnetic” effect on Captain Cook’s ship compass when he sailed past in 1770.
Travel 20 minutes by fast cat across the clear blue waters of Cleveland Bay to Magnetic Island. More than half of the island is reserved as a National Park, and this has preserved stunning scenery and habitats for koalas, possums and rock wallabies, in addition to a variety of birds. Where the headlands meet the sea, secluded beaches have formed, many of which can only be reached on foot or by boat.
