Island Explorer - Hike Moreton Island

Join the Tangalooma Ranger and tackle one of Moreton Island's many hiking trails. The desert trail is 4 Kilometres long and features an elevation gain of approximately 90 Meters. The trail takes you along the beach through the forest and out to the Desert where you will get spectacular views of the sand dunes. Walking is one of the best ways to appreciate the island's environmental features and to discover some of its many wildlife habitats. More than 180 species of birds have been recorded on the island including seabirds, waders, forest birds such as the Laughing kookaburra and birds of prey like the Whistling kite and White-bellied sea eagle. The Australian pelican, Pied cormorant and White-faced heron are amongst the more common resident birds on the beaches of Moreton Island. This is a difficult hike with many steps, inclines and uneven, undulating terrain and soft sand. Special Note: this tour operates weather permitting although rain does not deter us. Temperatures and humidity can be high. Wear sturdy walking shoes and long sleeves and trousers with cooling fabrics to protect your skin from sunburn.
