Tower Hill Reserve and Volcano


This tour will introduce you to two fascinating areas. You will begin by learning about the Maremma Dogs in Warrnambool where a world first environmental project uses Maremma guardian dogs to protect a colony of Little Penguins. The tour includes a presentation on the outcomes of the project as well as the opportunity to visit Middle Island, meet the Maremma Dogs as they carry out their patrols and see the penguin habitat. Following this unique tour you will have some free time for lunch before transferring a short distance to Tower Hill Reserve. One of the most fascinating geological formations in Victoria, Tower Hill is an enormous volcanic crater which formed after an eruption 32,000 years ago and is now home to an abundance of native birds, koalas, kangaroos, emus and other wildlife. Here you will enjoy a guided tour with a member of the local Aboriginal tribe, the Worn Gundidj, who will take you on a guided walk ans share the area's history and significance with you. Morning tea is included in this tour. Guests must be 5 years and older to participate on tour. Tour is not suitable for guests with back problems. The Maremma tour takes place at low tide and requires guests to walk through shallow water, please bring shoes and shorts that are okay to get wet. A change room is available.
