Crafts & Traditions of Heywood

Located just 28 kms from Portland, the township of Heywood is home to a number of interesting traditions and display. A short drive brings you to this welcoming town where you will have time to visit the various museums and displays. Located beside the Old School is the Town Green, which was set aside for public use by Lindsay Clarke in 1852. Inside the Old School itself you will find the Heywood Model Train Room with a large HO layout, an N Gauge layout, train DVDs, and memorabilia. Close by, is the Quilters Room with numerous quilts adorning the walls, with the quilters on standby to provide you with information about all forms of quilting. The Wagon Shed Museum is a short walk from the Old School and is one of the major attractions at Heywood, with a wealth of historical exhibits from past eras of the town and district, including a renovated old gaol building built in 1872 from the town's police station. Your visit to Heywood includes entry to all three attractions allowing you to explore at your leisure.
