Geological Panoramas Of The Peninsula

The fascination of the convict era, together with the dramatic coastal scenery of Tasmania, comes to life with the opportunity to discover the scenic Tasman Peninsula and Eagle Hawk Neck - view Tasman Arch or Devil's Kitchen and the spectacular views from Pirates Bay Lookout. Eagle Hawk Neck - See the Tessellated Pavement, Officer’s Quarters and the Dog Line where savage dogs once guarded the isthmus to prevent convicts escaping from Port Arthur. Devil's Kitchen or Tasman Arch - These natural rock formations are located high above the ocean atop rugged cliffs. Both of these geological features are nature's marvels which, over the years, have had their softer layers of rock eroded by the waves, leaving the stronger top layers withstanding the forces of nature. Blow Hole - It is here, where a weaker spot in the rock has eroded to the very top layer, that when the waves build up pressure they spray the water through the hole - similar to a whale's spout, only stronger. Pirates Bay Lookout - The view of the coastline from the lookout is stunning; see the beautiful beach with its white sands, blue water and rugged rocky cliffs. Also see Eagle Hawk Neck - a thin strip of land with water on both sides that separates the peninsula from the rest of Tasmania.
