Mt. Field National Park

First stop is the Salmon Ponds Heritage Hatchery and Gardens where you are sure to learn a thing or two during an interesting guided tour. As the oldest trout hatchery in the southern hemisphere, this is where the very first trout were raised back in 1864. In fact, they were the base stock for trout swimming in streams and lakes in Australia and New Zealand today! Take a guided walk around the beautiful grounds and gardens, visit the hatchery and its museum and hand feed hatchlings in the fish ponds. Next you will visit Mt. Field National Park, one of Tasmania’s oldest national parks. A World Heritage listed site, here you can walk amongst the world’s tallest hardwood trees and visit the spectacular Russell Falls. Special Notes: Guests with visual or hearing impairments must travel with a companion at all times. This tour is not suitable for guests who use a wheelchair, or those with limited mobility. To make your adventure as enjoyable as possible please wear comfortable, flat-soled shoes, clothing suited to the weather conditions, bring a hat, plenty of sunscreen and bottled water.
