Enjoy a narrated journey that takes you past the Round House, the oldest building still standing in Western Australia, built in 1830 as a prison for colonial and indigenous prisoners. Visit Fremantle Prison, built in 1855 to house imperial convicts, colonial prisoners, enemy aliens, prisoners of war and maximum-security detainees. Tour the main cellblock and prison yard as you guide regales you with the storied history of the prison which includes hangings, floggings and dramatic convict escapes. Decommissioned in 1991, it is currently part of a joint nomination of Australian Convict Sites for World Heritage status. Next you will visit the Western Australian Maritime Museum, perched on the shore of the Indian Ocean. Dedicated to Australia's long and colourful maritime history, it features internationally acclaimed exhibits. The Museum is also home to the winning America's Cup yacht, Australia II and you will meet with John Longley, one of the winning crew who will give you a fascinating insight into this historic race.
