Skyrail, Kuranda & Butterfly Sanctuary

Cairns is surrounded by a natural wonderland – the world famous Great Barrier Reef on one side and the equally beautiful rainforest hinterland on the other. If you can tear yourself away from the under-water attractions, you’ll be rewarded with what’s sure to be one of the world’s most beautiful rainforest experiences. Located in the Aboriginal town of Kuranda ‘the village in the rainforest’, the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary is home to over 2,000 butterflies including many local rainforest species like the blue Ulysses, the green and yellow Cairns Birdwing and the Monarch butterfly. And here’s an insider’s tip: wear red or white clothing and the butterflies will be more likely to land on you. Next, jump in a six-person gondola cabin and take a skyrail ride through the lush rainforest. The views are breath-taking as you glide over the rainforest just meters above the canopy. From up here you can see Cairns, Australia’s World Heritage listed tropical rainforests and the Cairns Highlands. Once the tour is over you’ll head back to the cruise ship in awe of Mother Nature.
