Cairns is surrounded by a natural wonderland – the world famous Great Barrier Reef on one side and the equally beautiful lush rainforest hinterland on the other. If you can tear yourself away from the under-water attractions, you’ll be rewarded with what’s sure to be one of the world’s most beautiful rainforest experiences.
Take an air-conditioned coach ride to Aboriginal town, Kuranda ‘the village in the rainforest’, located on the eastern tip of the Atherton Tableland. Here you can enjoy free time, shop for souvenirs or purchase a snack or lunch at one of the many cafes before boarding the Kuranda Scenic Railway for a spectacular journey through the mountains. Constructed over 100 years ago, the railway travels down the mountain, through tunnels and over bridges with sheer cliff faces and panoramic views of the Coral Sea and Cairns in the distance. Take in Barron Gorge and the breath-taking Barron and Stoney Creek Falls along the way.
Once the tour is over you’ll head back to the cruise ship in awe of this beautiful country.
