Whisky Makers Master Class

Enjoy an in-depth look into the process of producing whisky on this half-day distillery tour and Master Class. 15. Excursion Description Follow in the footsteps of Henry Hellyer, a surveyer and explorer, who in the early 19th century created the first road in Burnie. This now lends its name to the award-winning distillery. Hellyers Road Distillery is the largest distiller of single malt whisky in Australia and here you’ll be taken through the entire ‘behind the scenes’ process of creating this boutique whisky. On your whisky walk, you'll get to touch and feel the ingredients, smell the latest batch distilling and view the pristine environment in which the whisky maker works. Learn all about the imported oak barrels that have been previously used for American whisky, and how they impart flavour during maturation, which is appreciated by whisky connoisseurs around the globe. You will also have the opportunity to participate in a Master Class Whisky tasting session where you will sample many varieties of this fine product. Learn about the differences in taste and how the distilling process and ingredients combine to produce a first-class product. Accompanied by a selection of local cheeses, fruits and meats, this session should absolutely tantalise the taste buds. To round off your day, you’ll select your own cask strength whisky and then fill and wax seal your very own 500ml bottle of Hellyers Road, complete with a signed ‘Certificate of Authenticity’, which you can take home as a memento of your visit. 16.
