Cradle Mountain National Park

Travel into the heart of Tasmania's north to the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, a magnificent wilderness of pristine forest and glacial lakes. The winding road leads to the National Park--an alpine wilderness and wonderland, truly Tasmania's ultimate destination. This park is one of the most popular in Tasmania, yet still retains its isolated and wild character. Visit the National Park Centre, where you'll board a small coaster vehicle for an informative journey to Dove Lake. This is widely considered to be the jewel in the crown. On a clear day, the views of the lake, framed by the magnificent Cradle Mountain, are simply breathtaking and offer spectacular photo opportunities. Simply relax and enjoy the vistas while taking in the scents and sounds of the mountain, or take a brisk stroll along a section of the boardwalk that encircles the lake. A delicious lunch is served at a local hotel during the day. As you head back towards Burnie, your route takes you via Sheffield, the Town of Murals. Local artists have painted stories of the Kentish district on the old buildings. Enjoy a short stop here to see the colorful artwork. Return to the pier, having witnessed the rugged natural beauty of the Tasmanian wilderness.
