From Beach to Bowen


From the Beach to Bowen there is plenty to see and enjoy in the Whitsunday Coast. From the pier travel through the beautiful town of Airlie Beach. Travelling into the surrounding region you'll pass sugar cane, coffee and cattle farms and learn about the region's past, present and future. In Proserpine view the worlds most modern sugar cane mill and cross the Proserpine River home to saltwater crocodiles. Heading North make your way to Bowen, a charming town of beautiful bays and beaches, well known for its abundant fruit and vegetables produce. Arrive at the local bakery for morning tea and hear interesting facts and stories including how the town was recently used as the set for the movie "Australia". Visit a historic 1940's cinema for a guided tour and see autographed photos of famous movie stars who visited the cinema and town. After a delicious lunch, served at the local seafood Co-op overlooking the fishing fleet, enjoy a photo stop at a lookout for a panoramic views of the town and take a quick walk on the beach. On the return journey stop at the Big Mango for a quick selfie. Souvenirs and local mango sorbet can be purchased at own expense.
