The original ‘Port Misery’, explore the history of Port Adelaide, Largs Bay and Semaphore. Visit historic Torrens Island Quarantine Station, once the state's first line of defence for containing transferable diseases like smallpox. Tour the world’s oldest Clipper Ship ‘City of Adelaide’, one of only 2 surviving composite clipper ships. Hear tales of survival set amid tortuous journeys for those venturing in hope of a better life in a new land. Take a short stroll to the SA Maritime Museum, view the collection of mastheads, hear about the 'Mosquito Fleet' and read the 'Scuttlebutt' about early life behind the scenes in Port Adelaide. Continue to Largs Bay, pass historic boat sheds, and stop at the iconic Largs Bay Hotel (home to famous Adelaide bands Cold Chisel and AC/DC). Wander up Semaphore Road and explore its eclectic and eccentric range of boutique shops and cafes. Special Notes: Please wear comfortable flat-soled shoes, clothing suited to the weather conditions, a hat and jacket, plenty of biodegradable sunscreen and bring bottled water. For safety reasons enclosed shoes are required. The vehicle used cannot accommodate the storage of walkers or wheelchairs.
