Port to Port Maritime & Heritage

Uncover the story of the early settlers of Australia who travelled across the world to make a new home in a foreign land. Travelling from their home port to the original 'Port Misery' explore the history of Port Adelaide, Largs Bay and Semaphore. Visit the historic Torrens Island Quarantine Station which was once the state's first line of defence for containing transferable diseases like smallpox. Tour the worlds oldest Clipper Ship "City of Adelaide". The ship is one of only 2 surviving composite clipper ships. You'll hear tales of survival set amid tortuous journeys for those venturing in hope of a better life in a new land. Take a short stroll to the SA Maritime Museum to view the collection of mastheads, hear about the 'Mosquito Fleet' and read the 'Scuttlebutt' about early life behind the scenes in Port Adelaide. Venture through to Largs Bay passing historic boat sheds. A brief photo stop is taken at the iconic Largs Bay Hotel (home to the famous Adelaide bands Cold Chisel and AC/DC) then enjoy a brief wander up Semaphore Road with its eclectic and eccentric range of boutique shops and cafes. Lunch is served at a local pub during your day. Note: for safety reasons enclosed shoes are required
