Travel from the pier towards the city of Adelaide passing the CBD as you make your way in to the Adelaide Hills. Traveling along winding roads, past orchards and vineyards to pretty township of Hahndorf nestled in the foothills. Founded by German Lutherans in 1839 it is Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement. The main street is shaded by century-old elm trees and features old-fashioned cottages, plenty of souvenir shops, craft outlets and galleries. There is still a strong German flavour in Hahndorf, most apparent in the smallgoods outlets and German bakeries that line the bustling main street. Several boutique cellar doors have recently opened in the main street, and trendy eateries serve the freshest and best local produce Enjoy plenty of free time to explore the shops selling local pottery, jewellery, leather goods, and ironwork or just stroll down the charming streets. Enjoy lunch on your own (own expense) in one of the cafes or restaurants. Next head up to Mount Lofty to enjoy great views of Adelaide (weather permitting). At 2,100 feet above sea level, the summit offers dramatic views of the city sprawling below and the breath-taking South Australia coast. A brief photo stop is afforded before the return journey to the pier.

Almost all of our tours involve some walking and some tours include more walking and stair climbing than others. Walking may be over uneven surfaces such as cobblestone city streets or the rocky pathways of historic ruins.
