Depart your ship and travel through the central business district of East Timor’s laid-back capital of Dili. Pass by many historical buildings, monuments & religious places including the Government Palace, Casa Europa which was the original Portuguese Military garrison built in 1769, and the Prince Henry the Navigator Monument.
Your first stop is at the Santa Cruz Cemetery one the most important and historically significant worship sites in East Timor. Next, travel up through the foothills surrounding Dili and stop at the Nobel Palace that is a standing example of a building reflective of Dili’s colonial past before enjoying a delightful morning tea during your visit to the Australian World War 2 Memorial and Museum. Make your way back down into the centre of Dili passing by the National Parliament to the Timorese Resistance Archive and Museum as well as a enjoying a stop at the Xanana Cultural Centre (originally the Xanana Reading Room) which is home to a public library, bookshop and exhibition spaces showcasing a permanent collection of photographs and paintings completed both during Xanana’s life as a resistance fighter in rugged jungles and mountains of East Timor and while he was imprisoned in Indonesia during the 1990’s, awards and presentations made to Xanana Gusmao, tais and cultural artifacts.
Next, head east along the coast to the local art and craft market before arriving for a buffet lunch served under the shady trees on the beautiful white sand beach at Areia Branca Bay. The afternoon is now yours to enjoy in this tropical paradise, relax on the beach with a cocktail, swimming or kayaking in the bay, join a guided walking tour up to the top of the Jesus statue, or explore underwater East Timor which sits in the heart of the Indo-Pacific coral triangle on a guided snorkeling tour before returning to the ship.

To make your day as enjoyable as possible, please wear comfortable flat-soled shoes, clothing suited to the weather conditions, a hat and SPF30+ or higher factor sunscreen. Make sure to bring swimmers, a towel, and bottled water.
