Sun Princess to Become the Largest Cruise Ship Ever to Sail Under the Sydney Harbour Bridge
Date: 22 Oct 2007
Princess Cruises’ superliner Sun Princess will enter the history books this Wednesday when she becomes the largest passenger ship ever to sail under the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
With a gross tonnage of 77,441 tons and a height 49.4 metres above the waterline, Sun Princess will pass under the Bridge with a clearance of approximately two-and-a-half metres about 5.45am on Wednesday, October 24.
The luxury 1950-passenger superliner will berth at Wharf 8 Darling Harbour following a one-month cruise from America. She will sail back under the Bridge later that morning, at approximately 11am, enroute to Brisbane.
Sun Princess will return to Sydney early November, when she will become the first premium cruise ship to be based in Australia year round. Her first cruise, a 28-night circumnavigation of Australia, departs Sydney November 7.
Please note: Footage of Sun Princess’ historic passage under the Bridge will be distributed to newsrooms by 2pm Wednesday October 24, along with vision of the ship’s interiors.
