Stage Set to Find Superliners' New Super Talent
Date: 08 Oct 2007
P&O Cruises and Princess Cruises have mounted a joint nationwide search for new entertainers as they gear up for the launch of their two superliners, Pacific Dawn and Sun Princess, in Australia in November.
“The debut of Pacific Dawn and Sun Princess has created the perfect opportunity for us to find some fresh new talent to share the spotlight with our existing high quality line-up of guest entertainers,” said Brett Annable, Entertainment Services Manager for Carnival Australia, which represents the sister cruise lines in Australia.
“This is the first time we’ve undertaken a national recruitment campaign of this scale so we’re very excited about what we may discover,” Mr Annable said.
“Our cruise ships offer a very sophisticated range of entertainment so we’re looking for a wide variety of performers - from comedians, instrumental acts and magicians, through to novelty acts and singers.
“Australians are very talented and we’re keen to see what new acts are out there.”
P&O Cruises first superliner, the 70,000-ton Pacific Dawn, will sail on her first cruise from Australia on November 9, two days after Princess Cruises’ 77,000-ton Sun Princess debuts as Australia’s first year round premium superliner.
With onboard entertainment providing an important part of the cruise experience, both ships offer superb theatres and show lounges.
Mr Annable said P&O Cruises and Princess Cruises in Australia expected to employ more than 500 guest entertainers, dancers and singers during 2008, underlining the company’s commitment to providing quality entertainment for passengers.
The cruise lines’ latest talent search is being conducted in association with Grayboy Entertainment, with applicants invited to send the companies a showreel of their act.
Mr Annable said P&O Cruises and Princess Cruises would assess all applications, with the final selection of entertainers to appear in a Super Talent Showcase event in Sydney in late October.
“The simultaneous debut of two superliners in Australia has given us a great opportunity and we’re looking forward to finding some new talent,” he said.
P&O Cruises and Princess Cruises are operated by Carnival Australia. Part of the international Carnival Corporation group, Carnival Australia also represents Cunard Line, P&O Cruises UK, Costa Cruises and Seabourn in Australia.
