Puerto Madryn
Puerto Madryn, Argentina – port code PMY
Puerto Madryn is the Chubet region's gateway to the plains of Patagonia, a vast area covering a third of Argentina, although occupied by less than 4% of the population. 3 different regions characterize the region of Patagonia, each with its own unique identity. There is a vast and windy treeless plateau, the Atlantic coast and the southern part, with its national parks, breathtaking mountain ranges, glacier and fjords. First settled by a small group of adventurous Welsh immigrants (led by Parry Madryn) in the late 1800's, Puerto Madryn retains a Welsh flavor with Welsh customs, names and a smattering of the language.
Puerto Madryn is a popular vacation destination due in part to its proximity to wildlife reserves. Visitors are enthralled by the penguins, elephant seals, sea lions and whales.
Patagonia is a region, an area (not a country nor a state) that belongs to both Chile and Argentina.
