P&O Cruises Appoints New Hotel Boss

Date: 31 Mar 2008

P&O Cruises Australia has created a new position of Vice President Hotel Operations to drive further improvements to passengers’ onboard experience.

Sture Myrmell, who has more than 15 years’ experience in the cruise industry overseas, took responsibility for Australian hotel operations earlier this month.

Ann Sherry, Chief Executive Officer of Carnival Australia, said Mr Myrmell’s appointment would provide new opportunities to improve the onboard product for passengers on the superliner, Pacific Dawn, and Pacific Sun.

Hotel operations onboard P&O Cruises had been managed through Princess Cruises from the United States.

"Sture’s appointment is a signal that we are planning some exciting changes to our product that will create an even better holiday experience for passengers," Ms Sherry said.

"Everything from food and beverage to entertainment will be enhanced. It’s definitely a space to watch."

Mr Myrmell was previously based in Los Angeles as Director of Hotel Operations for Princess Cruises where he was responsible for hotel operations, including the conversion of Australia’s first superliner, Pacific Dawn. He has also held the positions of Director of Food and Beverage Operations for Cunard Line and Seabourn and Project Manager for Cunard Line (QM2) in Miami.

Mr Myrmell said it was exciting to head-up hotel operations for Australia’s most popular cruising brand at a time of significant industry growth and competition.

"We already have a fantastic product onboard P&O Cruises, and my focus will be on further refining the product to show the fun, excitement and magic of cruising on our ships," Mr Myrmell said.

"Cruising is an amazing way to holiday because it offers so many activities. We’ll be looking at some innovative ways to build on this and further capture the imagination of passengers.

Carnival Australia is part of Carnival Corporation & plc, the world’s largest cruise holiday company, and represents P&O Cruises Australia, Princess Cruises, Cunard, Seabourn, Costa and P&O Cruises World Voyages.
