Midway Island

Located in the Pacific Ocean near the western end of the Hawaiian Islands, Midway Islands is comprised two islands enclosed by a coral atoll. In 1942, Midway Island became the focus of a major air and sea battle ("The Battle of Midway") that changed the tide of WWII's operation in the Pacific. Today, Midway is the site of a national wildlife refuge, which is home to millions of birds.
