Luggage

On cruises sailing from and returning to Southampton, you can bring as many bags as you like; but do remember that it will all have to fit into your cabin. When you arrive at the Southampton cruise terminal, simply give your luggage to one of the porters and it will be delivered to your cabin onboard.

For any fly-cruises, such as Oceana’s charter fly cruise program, the maximum amount of luggage allowed by the airline is 25kgs per person. The baggage allowance for scheduled airlines varies. Please check the amount shown on your airline ticket or itinerary before travel. Hand luggage must be small enough to fit under the seat in front of you or into an overhead locker and only one piece is allowed per person.

Carry-on Luggage

Don’t pack breakable items, valuables, jewellery or medicines in your suitcases. Though your luggage will be delivered to your cabin as quickly as possible, it’s always wise to carry essentials you may want immediately after boarding (spectacles, toiletries, etc) in a separate bag you can take aboard yourself. As all luggage will be subject to X-ray and possible hand search, it is essential that all electrical items are carried in hand luggage, not in large cases. Please note, sharp items, e.g. nail files and scissors should not be carried in hand luggage.

Security Inspections

There is a security inspection of both heavy and hand luggage using specialist equipment. Heavy items are checked prior to embarkation and you may be asked to return to your luggage if closer examination is required. Hand luggage is similarly inspected as passengers embark.

Please note that, particularly during fly cruises, baggage will be subject to a considerable amount of handling. We would therefore recommend that your suitcases are of sturdy construction.

Labelling your luggage

Luggage labels are included with your cruise tickets. Please complete these clearly and attach one to each suitcase. The smaller blue plastic labels are designed for use on your hand luggage only. Please do not place these on any item that will be loaded or unloaded by dock labour.
