Health
Vaccinations & Health Advisories
We recommend seasonal influenza vaccination for all passengers. Furthermore, you are strongly advised to seek advice from either your doctor or an approved public health travel advisory service, to identify any specific vaccination or health precautions required for each port of call. For example:
Australian Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade www.dfat.gov.au/travel
World Health Organisations (WHO) www.who.int/ith
United States Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) www.cdc.gov/travel
Some countries enforce certain health requirements. Failure to comply may result in the local authories preventing passengers from going ashore and some may impose a monetary fine or deny the ship entry into the port.
Pregnancy
Passengers are prohibited from sailing if they will have entered the 24th week (or later) of pregnancy at any time during the cruise.
Health
For your own personal safety and comfort, and for the comfort of other passengers, you must be fit and healthy to travel with us. Naturally there is a fully equipped Medical Centre on every P&O Cruises ship, but our medical facilities are not designed for extensive or continuing treatment of pre-existing conditions.
If you have a medical condition that necessitates the use of oxygen, will be taking a nebuliser or oxygen concentrator with you require peritoneal dialysis, are an insulin-dependant diabetic, or will be taking a CPAP machine with you, you must let us know when you make a booking. We may ask your doctor to complete our questionnaire if we need further information before accepting your booking.
We are unable to carry any passengers suffering from a contagious disease (eg measles, chicken pox, etc).
Also, passengers who normally require assistance in the activities of daily living are advised that they must be accompanied by a carer/companion fit to assist them.
If your health condition as declared at the time of booking changes, you must inform P&O Cruises immediately. Finally, please note that if, in our opinion, you have failed to inform us of any condition which we consider potentially damaging either to yourself or any other passenger, we shall refuse boarding. In addition, failure to disclose any of the specified medical conditions may result in your insurance being invalidated. The ships offer medical consultations at standard Private Health prices - details are available at the Reception Desk.
Fully itemised receipts will be issued for insurance claims.
Sea sickness
Those who have never cruised before may be concerned about sea sickness. However, all P&O Cruises ships are large ships which are fully stabilised and bad weather is not a frequent occurrence. Should rough conditions occur the majority of passengers will be unaffected and those who might be, should be reassured that seasickness can be very effectively treated onboard by the ship’s doctor with tablets at an early stage or an injection. We recommend that you bring your own supply of tablets to take from an early stage. Please note that homeopathic tablets are usually available for purchase in the shops onboard.
