Arica

Arica, Chile – port code ARI
Arica ("Desired Land" in Quechua) is one of Chile's northernmost ports and is located close to the Peruvian frontier. Arica lies below El Morro Hill and backs up to desert sand dunes. Arica's iron cathedral was built by Eiffel of Paris fame. Visitors to this region often travel to the nearby Azapa Valley, home to the San Miguel Archaeological Museum, with it famous mummies from the ancient Chinchorro culture. In addition, Lauca National Park's beautiful lake and mountain scenery of the altiplano, with its habitat of llama, alpaca and vicuna make this destination a favorite.
