Ann Sherry appointed to QLD Government commission

Date: 14 Mar 2008

Carnival Australia Chief Executive Officer Ann Sherry AO has been appointed by the Queensland Government to a new commission to drive better management and delivery of government business.

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh announced earlier this week she would be creating the Public Service Commission by 1 July this year as one of five new major public sector reform initiatives to promote a more modern, efficient and effective public service.

The aim of the new commission will be to deliver greater efficiencies by bringing together core disciplines of performance management expertise with human resources management.

Ms Sherry today welcomed the Queensland Government’s appointment because it will deliver a better result for taxpayers and a more competitive business focus.

“This is a great opportunity to drive real change within the public sector in Queensland to deliver better frontline services to taxpayers,” Ms Sherry said.

“I am very passionate about improving the management and delivery of infrastructure, particularly ports, which makes such a significant contribution to the health of the economy.

“This initiative is about ensuring Queensland and indeed Australia remains competitive and reaches its economic potential, which is in the interests of every person living and working in this state.

“I look forward to bringing my experience in both the private and public sectors to assist the commission in this role.”

Ms Sherry will join James Strong as the two business representatives on the commission.

The commission will be an amalgamation of the existing Service Delivery and Performance Commission with the Office of the Public Service Commissioner. Its functions and terms of reference are yet to be defined and considered by Cabinet.
