Date: 31 Mar 2008
Carnival Australia’s Chief Executive Officer, Ann Sherry AO, has been appointed to the Federal Government’s 2020 Summit, which will play a role in developing Australia’s future.
Ms Sherry is among the 1000 people who have been selected for the Australia 2020 Summit, which convenes at Parliament House, Canberra, on April 19-20 to harness the best ideas for building a modern Australia.
Chosen to participate in the key discussion area "future directions for the Australian economy", Ms Sherry said the Summit represented an exciting period in the nation’s development.
"The Australia 2020 Summit is a rare chance to harness the experience and energy of a broad cross-section of people to contribute to the direction of this country," she said.
"A healthy economy is the cornerstone of a successful and equitable society, and I’m looking forward to working with the Steering Committee’s participants to explore some opportunities that will take us forward.
"The committee will also provide a platform for thinking hard about the development of the nation’s infrastructure, which is fundamentally important to our economic stability, and one of my key interest areas."
Ms Sherry and Qantas chief Geoff Dixon are the key appointments from the travel sector to the Steering Committee, which will be headed by former Westpac CEO David Morgan.
Earlier this month, Ms Sherry was also appointed by the Queensland Government to a new commission to drive better management and delivery of government business.
The Public Service Commission, which begins 1 July, is one of five new major public sector reform initiatives to promote a more modern, efficient and effective public service.
