P&O Cruises has been taking Australians on cruise holidays since 1932, when its 22,500-ton liner Strathaird sailed from Sydney on a five-night roundtrip cruise to Norfolk Island and Brisbane.

Now celebrating its 75th anniversary of cruising from , P&O Cruises carries more than 100,000 passengers annually on scores of voyages to destinations throughout the South Pacific.

The P&O Cruises Fleet

  • Pacific Dawn: 70,000 tons, 2050 passengers, based in Sydney Pacific Dawn is P&O Cruises’ first superliner, offering unprecedented choice in cabins, dining and entertainment.
  • Pacific Sun: 47,000 tons, 1900 passengers, will cruise from Brisbane from November 2007, with a winter season of cruising from Auckland.

Today cruising is one of the fastest growing sectors of the Australian tourism industry.According to the latest International Cruise Council Australasia statistics, the number of Australians taking cruise holidays increased by 18 per cent to more than 220,000 in 2006.
