Escape to the tranquillity of the hills overlooking the city of Noumea. Situated here, at an elevation of 548 feet, Parc Forestier covers 85 acres, including 5 acres of ponds and lakes which house a large variety of wild and domestic birds. A guided tour along a well marked walkway through this peaceful sanctuary, provides an insight into the flora and fauna of the South Pacific. Among the many species to be seen are the Cagou, a flightless bird that is the symbol of New Caledonia. This unique bird has a call often mistaken for that of a barking dog!
