Docking / Disembarkation 

Your ship will anchor at Yorkey's Knob and you will be transferred ashore by tenders.

Shopping 

There is a wide range of speciality stores including newsagents, chemists, cafes and restaurants, banks, a post office and souvenir shops situated along the Esplanade and in Abbott and Lake Streets. For an air-conditioned shopping experience, Cairns Central Shopping Centre is located right next to Cairns Central Railway Station and only a short walk from the Esplanade and Cairns Convention Centre. Choose from 180 specialty stores, two supermarkets, two department stores, six cinemas, three licensed restaurants as well as coffee shops, banks, email facilities, medical centre, pharmacies, dentist, chiropractor, a post office and an international food court.

Dining 

Tropical North Queensland is well known for its abundance of exotic fruits, fresh seafood such as prawns, mud crabs, coral trout and scallops, locally grown and processed coffee and tea and freshwater crayfish. All of these delicious foods can be found on many restaurant and café menus in the CBD and throughout the region.

Climate 

The ideal weather in Yorkey's Knob/Cairns for most is between May and October which is the dry season. The average minimum temperature is 17ºC and the average maximum temperature is 31.4ºC. During the wet season tropical rainfalls caused by monsoons bring the average rainfall in Cairns to 169mm.

Tipping 

Tipping is not customary for service in Yorkeys Knob or Cairns, but is frequently offered at the client's discretion in appreciation of good service. As a guide you can round up the taxi fare to the nearest dollar, and leave a 10% tip in restaurants if you choose.

Credit Cards 

Major credit cards and charge cards are widely accepted. Many automatic teller machines provide currency to foreign card holders. Look for the 'Cirrus' symbol.

Public telephones are available throughout Yorkeys township as well as Cairns City.

What To Wear Ashore 

To make your day as enjoyable as possible, please ensure that you wear comfortable flat soled shoes and a hat, and bring along SPF 30+ or higher factor sunscreen and bottled water.

Stinger Season 

The season for box jelly-fish and stingers generally starts with the onset of the wet across the top of Northern Australia, usually around October and lasts until April.
