Sydney, Australia

The biggest bonus of a Sydney holiday is the awe-inspiring views of the beautiful Sydney harbour from different viewpoints. The Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House and unexpectedly, the brightly lit skyscrapers that form an excellent backdrop to the city’s natural and man-made wonders are some of the views that you will grow to love.

Plan your time well; there is a lot more to holidays in Sydney. Everything you associate with a metropolitan city is here and so are some heavenly beaches, the famous Bondi beach, Watsons Bay and Nielsen Park.

More about Sydney

Docking / Disembarkation

Your Ship will dock at the terminal in the heart of Sydney. Clothing and souvenir shops, restaurants, cafes and supermarkets are all within close walking distance from the ship.

Taxis

Taxis are widely available – you can’t miss them; mostly they’re white or silver in colour. Pick one up at a rank or hail a vacant one on a street. Water taxis are also available from various harbourside jetties. There is also an excellent public transport system comprising the city’s famous ferries, trains and buses.

Shopping

Start your shopping experience in Sydney in the downtown area – the CBD. The gracious Queen Victoria Building and Strand Arcade were both constructed in the late 19th century and are full of stores, boutiques, cafes and restaurants. Connecting to these are other arcades and major department stores. Every tourist precinct (such as Darling Harbour and The Rocks) features shops and galleries and there are several stores that sell Aboriginal arts and crafts. Further out, in inner suburbs such as Newtown and Surry Hills, you’ll find fascinating, one-of-a-kind shops and galleries of all kinds.

Dining

As Australia’s global city, Sydney boasts cuisines from every corner of the planet – its Asian restaurants are some of the world’s finest. Around the harbour and through the inner city are some of the best upmarket restaurants you’ll ever experience, but there are also hundreds of less expensive alternatives.

Climate

Sydney enjoys a temperate climate that, sometimes, verges on sub-tropical. In summer it can get quite hot and humid, particularly from January to March. Winters are cool, with some cold days. Autumn is delightful, as is spring.

Tipping

If you’re pleased with the service you receive in a restaurant, a reasonable tip would be around five to ten percent of the bill.

Credit Cards

Major credit cards and charge cards are widely accepted.

Telephones International and Local

Public telephones are widely available.

What To Wear Ashore

To make your day ashore as enjoyable as possible, wear comfortable, flat soled shoes, ‘layered’ clothing (to allow for changes in temperature, particularly in autumn and winter) and a hat, SPF30+ or higher fatcor sunscreen and bottled water. It’s also a good idea to bring an umbrella on overcast days and a warm jacket in winter.

Shore Tours

There are a number of tours available for you to really get the most out of your time in and around Sydney.
