Situated on the North West coast of Tasmania, Burnie is a deep-water anchorage once called Emu Bay. The town owes its growth to the development of its forest-based industries, the largest of which is the paper maker, Australian Paper (Amcor).
Its main attractions include the Pioneer Village Museum, Civic Centre Precinct, Regional Art Gallery, Rhododendron Gardens, Annsleigh Gardens, Guide Falls, Burnie Park, Lactos Cheese Factory, Trout fishing at Lake Kara and the Amcor Paper Mills.
