Experience the unique Nambus culture
Wala is remote, scarcely populated and steeped in culture. The island is the only place in the world where you can experience the unique Nambus culture and witness Namangi ceremony demonstrations.
Due to the scarce population there's no electricity, telephones or cars to disturb the peace. The primary mode of transport is on foot or by dugout outrigger canoes. On arrival you'll receive a warm Wala welcome with a custom string band and happy harmonizing voices greeting passengers as they arrive on the island.
The soft coral white beach fringed with palms extends down to bright turquoise waters and the inky blue of the deep channel dividing the island from the mainland. Dugouts ply the foreshore and the snorkelling is excellent. There's also great bush walking opportunities through old growth forest.
On the beach there is a bar serving cool Tusker Vanuatu beer and soft drinks. A fine selection of handicrafts can be purchased from the stalls at the edge of the beach close to the grass thatched hut villages.
