Discover Brisbane Holidays

Brisbane is a city full of contradictions. It’s a place of shorts and thongs and high finance. It is both sophisticated and rustic. A city eager to change, yet reluctant to abandon its old ways!

Brisbane offers a wide variety of activities to keep you entertained from restaurants and cafes, to shopping arcades, fun parks, spectacular white sand beaches and lush rainforests. Located between the mountains and the sea, it provides almost limitless opportunities for day and weekend excursions. Brisbane has grown to become Australia’s third largest city, and an important industrial and commercial centre.

More about Brisbane

Docking / Disembarkation

Your P&O Cruises ship will dock at the Portside Wharf Cruise Terminal, a 10-15 minute drive from the city centre.

Taxis

A taxi rank is located at the entrance to the Portside Wharf. Public bus and ferry services within walking distance from the pier operate round-trip services into the city.

Shopping

A range of shopping options are available in Brisbane including large shopping centres, discount shopping, factory outlet shops and bargain stores. Queen Street Mall offers the best downtown shopping, with numerous shops, stalls and cafes, along with a generally festive atmosphere. The surrounding streets also offer many interesting shops and arcades worth exploring.

Dining

In the heart of the city you’ll find fine cuisine and gourmet delights. Being a large city, the cultural diversity and abundance of food choices is large enough to satisfy most restaurant goers.

Climate

Brisbane is Australia's sunniest capital city. While the city's climate is quite mild the whole year round, people used to tropical temperatures will find its winter cold (7ºC to 20°C in July). Summer becomes quite hot and humid (21ºC to 29ºC with high humidity in January), lightweight clothing and natural fibres are most comfortable.

Credit Cards

Major credit cards and charge cards are widely accepted. Automatic teller machines provide currency to foreign card holders.

Telephones International and Local

Public telephones are available throughout the city.

What To Wear Ashore

To make your day as enjoyable as possible, please ensure that you wear comfortable flat soled shoes and a hat, and bring along some sunscreen and bottled water.

Shore Tours

There are a variety of Shore Tours available for you to enjoy during your time in Brisbane. Subject to availablility, Shore Tours can be booked via Cruise Personaliser prior to your cruise or onboard at the Shore Tours Desk.

Stinger Season

The season for box jelly-fish and stingers generally starts with the onset of the wet across the top of Northern Australia, usually around October and lasts until April.

Environment

Whatever you decide to do after your visit to Cairns or any island port of call, please bring your rubbish back to the ship with you – that includes dead camera batteries.
