Pacific Sun Celebrates Ultra-Marathon Success at Sea

A recent journey on P&O Cruises’ Pacific Sun was anything but cruisy for Canberra man, Rob Ginnivan, as he ran 419 laps of the ship in his quest to complete a 50km ultra-marathon at sea.

The onboard feat took Rob just over four hours, buoyed by the support of passengers and crew.

The ultra-marathon achievement forms part of Rob’s attempt to become the first person in the world to run a marathon on land, an ultra-marathon at sea and a half-marathon in the air.

Rob, who is using his world record attempt to raise money for the Heart Foundation, followed his onboard ultra-marathon with a presentation to passengers promoting health and wellbeing.

Pacific Sun Hotel Director Thomas Karlsson said Rob’s ultra-marathon achievement was an inspiration to those onboard the ship.

“We are proud to have played host to Rob during the successful second stage of his world record attempt,” Mr Karlsson said.

“Pacific Sun features a variety of healthy food, lifestyle and exercise options and we are pleased Rob was able to make use of some of those options during his cruise.”

With the land component – a marathon in Morocco – also completed, all that remains is for Rob to take to the skies in a hot air balloon, complete with treadmill, for his airborne half-marathon attempt.
